Top Travel Memories: Para-sailing over the Pacific Ocean (Sept 2008)

I'd like to consider myself a little daring in general. I'm sort of an adrenaline junky in a tame sort of way. I love roller coasters, have always sort of wanted to go bungee jumping and sky diving, hang gliding, zip lining, on helicopter rides, lots of hiking. Of course, a lot of that has been put on hold since we brought our little boys into our lives.

When Mark and I were first married, we spent a lot of time traveling, and probably at least half of our vacations were to visit Mark's brother, Daniel. Daniel is in the Navy, so he was stationed all over the place. In 2005, we visited him and his then-wife Rechelle in San Diego and made a loop to Vegas and back. In 2007, we made an impromptu week-long trip to Vegas and stayed with him in his timeshare condo. In 2008, we visited him in Virginia Beach. In 2010, we met up with him, his wife Iryna and daughter Sophie in San Diego. In 2011, we visited him and his family in Washington State.

When we went to see him in Virginia Beach, we had a lot of fun traveling around the state of Virginia and up to Washington DC and back to Virginia Beach. One of the first days we were there, we decided to go para-sailing. To be honest, I hadn't really ever thought of para-sailing as being that adventurous before. And really, it's not that adventurous: It's pretty tame as far as adventure goes. But it was still one of the coolest things I've done.

Mark and I went together and went 1200 feet in the air. and for the most part, it was extremely peaceful. I was shocked at just exactly how peaceful it was up there. It took a little while, however, to get used to the creaking straps, and it was honestly a little freaky, thinking about falling 1200 feet into the ocean should the straps break.

We had many other memories from this trip, which you can check out below:

East Coast Vacation - King's Dominion

September 1
Monday morning, we got up early, and were on the road by 8am headed for King's Dominion! It was such an awesome day!! We rode roller coasters all morning and hung out at the water park riding all those rides and slides all afternoon. We finished the day with a ride on the Volcano - most awesome roller coaster yet :)

King's Dominion was one of the funnest amusement parks I've been to since Cedar Point (Sandusky, Ohio)at the end of our honeymoon back in 2006. The rides were pretty fantastic (although I'd steer clear of ALL the wooden ones unless you want bruises from the rough ride), and the water park was great on a hot day!

After King's Dominion, we drove down to Charlottesville and checked into our hotel, which was under construction, and ordered a Papa John's pizza for supper. (Yes, that's a delicacy for us small town SW Minnesota people!)
