Duluth, Minnesota Anniversary Trip

One of our favorite vacation spots (and oddly, the closest to us) is Duluth, Minnesota and the beautiful north shore along Lake Superior. We have been twice in the past over the 4th of July, and this year for our 6th anniversary, we decided to take in the fall foliage to celebrate.

We made the long drive up to Duluth after work on Friday, arriving just as the first few flakes of SNOW were falling. The first night, we stayed downtown at the Holiday Inn, which was nice.

Saturday: Train Tour and Exploring Canal Park
We had a great view in the morning.

The next morning, we gathered our things together and checked out of the hotel after having some breakfast in the restaurant in the hotel. The breakfast was good, although a little spendy.

After breakfast, we made our way to the train depot to catch our fall foliage train tour to Two Harbors.

After we returned from the train tour, we checked in at our hotel for the next two nights: The Inn On Lake Superior. It was SO beautiful! When I got to our room, I was surprised with these beautiful flowers!

The view from our room was beautiful! And the view from the back door of our hotel even more beautiful!

We rested for a while before making our way to Grandma's for supper. We were mildly unimpressed with the food and service there, unfortunately, but we hadn't tried it before, so we tried it: We won't be returning.

Both nights we stayed at The Inn on Lake Superior, we took advantage of the yummy (free) s'mores in the evening out on the back patio overlooking Lake Superior.

Sunday: Canal Park Walk and Little Angie's
The next day, after having a yummy breakfast at the hotel and lounging around a bit, we headed out to check out Canal Park. It was pretty cold, however, so we didn't stay out too long. We did, however, see a barge come in, and got to see the aerial lift bridge in action.

We ventured out again to walk over to the other Grandma's restaurant (there are more than one in Duluth) to try it out, which was a hit!

I tried the stuffed mushrooms (absolutely ridiculously smothered-in-cheese sinful) and I can't recall what Mark had, but I'm pretty sure it was something along the lines of an enormous burger.

Later, once it warmed up a bit, we took a walk along the Lake Walk, which was just perfect with a light jacket. The views were so beautiful!

Little Angie's Cantina
After we returned from our walk, we rested a while, then went out to supper at Little Angie's Cantina for some yummy fajitas before calling it an early night after taking advantage of the s'mores once again.

Monday: Heading Home
We made our way home on Monday after breakfast at the hotel. On the way home, we made a couple stops: at Chili's in the Roseville for lunch, then Emma Krumbees to explore and split an apple cider float and then for a few family pictures around the Saint Peter area.

It was such a wonderful weekend in Duluth, and it went WAY too fast! Here are some pics from our last day :)

Duluth, once again, did not disappoint :) We sure enjoyed our fun, laid-back weekend together, and hope to make it back again in 2013 :)
